Privacy notice
Last updated: 7 October 2026
This notice explains what personal information the Media Freedom Act Campaign collects, why, and what rights you have.
01. Who we are
The Media Freedom Act Campaign is the controller of your personal information. If you have any questions about this notice or your information, email ch@mediasovereignty.org.
02. What we collect, and why
When you join our mailing list
We collect your email address, and your name and postcode if you give them. We use them to send you campaign emails, about one a fortnight. If you give your postcode, we use it to work out your parliamentary constituency, so that we can tell MPs how many of their constituents support the Act, and let you know about action near you. We tell MPs numbers only, never names.
We send emails only with your consent, which you give by signing up and confirming your email address. Because being on a campaign’s mailing list can reveal a political opinion, we rely on the condition for not-for-profit bodies with political aims to hold this information. You can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking “unsubscribe” in any email.
When you donate
We and our payment provider collect your name, email address, phone number, billing details and the amount you give, and your confirmation that you live in the UK. We use them to process your donation, keep financial records, handle refunds, and publish the names of people who give more than £500, as this page and the Donate page explain. We never see your full card details: our payment provider handles them.
When you contact us
We collect your name, email address and message, and use them to reply to you. We do this because it is in our legitimate interests, and yours, to answer.
When you visit the website
Our website is hosted by Squarespace, which uses cookies to run the site and, if you agree, to measure how it is used. You can choose which cookies to accept in the banner when you first visit.
03. Who else handles your information
We use these services to process information on our behalf, under contracts that require them to protect it:
NewsCord runs our mailing list. [Where NewsCord stores the data.]
Squarespace hosts our website and runs our forms and donation pages.
Stripe processes donations.
[Email provider] handles our email.
Some of these services may store information outside the UK. Where they do, the International Data Transfer Agreement applies.
We never sell your information, and we never share it with anyone for their own marketing. We don’t share it with any political party.
04. How long we keep it
Mailing list: until you unsubscribe.
Donations: ten years, for our financial records.
Messages to us: 24 months after we last replied, unless we need them longer to finish helping you.
05. Your rights
You have the right to:
ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
ask us to correct it;
ask us to delete it;
ask us to stop using it, or to limit how we use it;
object to how we use it;
withdraw your consent at any time, where we rely on it;
ask for your information in a format you can take elsewhere.
To use any of these rights, email ch@mediasovereignty.org. We’ll reply within a month.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
06. Changes to this notice
If we change this notice, we’ll post the new version here with the date it changed.
